In our work at the School we endeavor to meet the needs of all of our students, in particular those with Special Educational Needs or Disability, so far as it is compatible with the efficient use of resources.
All students are individual and unique, as such we strive to value the contributions and achievements of each one. We believe that they all share an entitlement to the full range of the curriculum, therefore we are committed to attempting to ensure access through differentiation, varied teaching styles and support. Special needs with which we have experience have included visual impairment and Asperger’s Syndrome. We cannot claim expertise, but each individual is treated sympathetically, with an attempt to ensure progress. Expert help can be provided through the Local Authority.
Some students may have periods of behavioural or emotional instability and we provide procedures to try to support them through this. Such systems include mentoring by a member of staff, learning support mentors and the use of a quiet room. In exceptional cases, support can also be provided through the Local Authority. By such systems we aim to support an individual through a difficult time, enabling him/her to cope and ultimately overcome the difficulty.
Admission to the School is through selection tests (verbal reasoning, 英语 and Maths). Prospective parents who feel that their son (or 六 daughter) has a special educational need of which we should be aware should write in the first instance to the Headteacher giving details of the case. Existing parents who feel there is a special need of which the School is unaware should contact the School’s Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo), Sarah Vaughan firstname.lastname@example.org.
