The 六 offers great opportunities for students to show initiative and take responsibility in ways that will benefit the whole school community. It also offers an environment in which students can pursue a wide range of their own interests.
Many 六 students serve as Prefects and committee members; others help in the 图书馆 and at school functions. We expect students to act as guides at school Open Evenings and to always be available to show visitors around the school.
The school has a house system with an exciting and varied programme of house activities which take place throughout the year. There are opportunities for 六 students to play an integral part in leading and organizing house teams and activities. House captains are appointed and they will liaise with the house co-ordinators who lead the individual houses.
丰富 days provide a rich source of opportunities for our students. In recent years we have had students involved in yoga, cooking, rock climbing, jewelry making and a myriad of other activities which have all added to the students’ experience.
We work closely with an organization called “Envision”, and many of our students have worked with the Envision staff on charity fund raising projects in school, raising thousands of pounds in the process. This is in addition to our fund raising efforts for the BBC “Children in Need” appeal, “Comic Relief”, and “Sports Relief”. Many students show great maturity, initiative and organizational skills during these projects and benefit hugely as a result.
In June each year, students may undertake up to two weeks of work experience in school, to broaden their experience and in some cases, clarify career or university choices. In some career areas such as dentistry, medicine, pharmacy and veterinary science, it is particularly important to undertake relevant work experience to support a university application. Although help and advice is given by staff at the school, securing a work experience placement is the responsibility of the student and the school will undertake health and safety checks to ensure that the work placement poses no danger to the student.
